IELTS. TOEFL. SPEAKING. DESCRIBING A PERSON.

THE TASK TODAY WILL BE EASY AND PLEASANT.

1. Watch the video. Mariam is singing not in English, but understanding the lyrics is not our task today.

Myriam Faris - Enta El Hayat

2. While watching, make notes about how you would describe or speak about:

- her voice
- her manner  of sinsing
- her way of moving and presenting herself
- her appearance
- your impression on the song ( what it could be about)
- the way the audience reacts and how is it different from the audience reaction on singing in your country,
- information about her if you know something (if you got interested in her and her music, surf in the Internet)

Write or look up in a dictionary at least 5 words or phrases connected to each point.

3. Prepare 45 second speech about the performance. You can write it down and send to the teacher to check.

Have a great day!

And always remember: to reach success in learning English you need to practice every day, at least 15 minutes. Today you have a chance to devote your 30 minutes to a pleasant study!

TOEFL SPEAKING. QUESTION 1. Procedure. Tips for success. First homework.

In your first video about the speaking session the expert talks about the procedure of Question 1 section and   gives you the tips to your success.

CLICK HERE to watch the video again.

Procedure
  1.  Question 1 starts the Speaking section.
  2. You will have 15 seconds to take notes and about 45 seconds (up to 60 secons) to speak.
  3. The section is about persons, so you will have to quickly choose a person to speak about,
  4. The recommended structure of your speech is:
  • The short introduction,
  • The main body of the speech, reasoning,
  • The short conclusion.
Tips for success

  1. REASONS: The expert recommends to take two reasons and give the details and examples accordingly.
  2. NOTES: Notes are just tips for you to remember what to speak about, so don't write sentences while you take notes, write key words and phrases. You have only 15 seconds anyway.
  3. YOUR FOCUS: You have to be focused on what you you need to say. You need to focus on the task.
  4. THE SPEED OF YOUR SPEECH: You don't need to rush (speak quickly). You need to speak with a strong pace so that your grader  can see you have a good strong hold on English and you can still answer the question while you speak at a good speed.

What we do during the following 20 lessons about the section:
  1. We will develop English Speaking skill, as it is useful to be able to do 45 seconds speech. You will need it many times during your life, in your native language and, if you go abroad, in English.
  2. We  integrate the preparation for this kind of section into our English learning. We are going to talk about many people in your life, learn characteristics of the people. Every lesson we will have 45 second speech about some person or people.

YOUR FIRST HOMEWORK

Prepare for the topic from the video:

QUESTION 1 TASK:
